WNEW.com is a channel and website created by and for people who are passionate about rock. Unlike most radio stations, who limit themselves to one style or vintage (e.g., alternative, hard rock, soft rock, classic rock), WNEW.com will reflect the broad tastes of listeners who enjoy a wider spectrum of music.
Perhaps the most unique aspect of WNEW.com is our incredible audio archives, featuring historic concerts and live performances from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, as well as timeless interviews with a remarkable roster of rock immortals. We’ve gathered and digitized hundreds of amazing moments from the airwaves of some of America’s great rock radio stations, most notably our namesake WNEW-FM, which ruled the airwaves in New York City for four decades. On-air visits were commonplace by members of the Beatles, the Stones, Led Zeppelin, the Who, the Dead and virtually every superstar you could imagine.
Our primary goals are to be an extraordinary rock outpost and to be extremely relevant to you. We want to recapture the spirit and philosophy of progressive rock through WNEW.com and connect the dots to rock’s most compelling artists of the present and future.

"The
first 30 years of my life were spent in the NY metro area. I grew up a
WNEW-FM fan. I remember Dave Herman in the mornings, Scott Muni doing
those ‘British Things…Things from England’ every Friday afternoon, as
I was driving home from college on Long Island. Dennis Elsas (my fellow
ELO Fan)… Pete Fornatale… Alison Steele… and those crazy stories
from Vin Scelsa, Tom Morerra and Meg(less) Griffin (the Ramones FIRST
fan). They were all my heroes. THEY were the reasons I got behind a
microphone and have been in broadcasting for over 25 years.
OH YEAH, then there was music, too. The best rock station in America
because it never sounded like a ‘format.’ It was great rock music from
may eras. You could tune in and hear them playing Chuck Berry, then the
Ramones, the Who and more (but never… NEVER… disco). I remember winning only one contest on a radio station in my lifetime.
And it was from WNEW-FM: I won tickets to see MOTT THE HOOPLE on
Broadway at the Uris Theater, Plus all 3 MOTT albums. Opening act?
QUEEN on their first US tour (talk about MEMORIES?). It was a night I’ll
never forget.
So now, here I am 200 miles away from NY city, 30 years later, but
through technology, I get to be 22 again, if only when I’m streaming!

is just phenomenal that, we can go back and re-live many great moments

"When I saw an article in the NY Times about the return (sort of) of WNEW O was
very skeptical. For me WNEW was THE station for me growing up in the
metro area. Well so far it’s eerily like the old format. I started
listening in 1970 and remember hearing The Allman Brothers 2nd album
being previewed and they’ve been my favorite band since. I remember
John Lennon stopping by one afternoon to chat with Scott Muni. I
remember Pete Fornatelle playing the new Poco album Crazy Eyes. I
could fill a book with memories of this station and people who listened
back then know what I mean. I’m on my second day of listening on my
computer and it is refreshing to hear radio and not think it sucks.
