Little Feat do the WNEW Interview
It’s always great when a band you’ve loved for years puts together a collection of their greatest hits remixed and re-interpreted with their famous musical friends. It’s even better when it’s the legendary band Little Feat, who for 40 years have been cultivating a large number of fans and famous musician admirers. Their new album is called Join The Band and was born out of a documentary that the band was going to create, but never took shape. Sure, they taped lots of stuff with a lot of famous friends, but it seemed that a retrospective album came together faster than a documentary. Bill Payne & Paul Barrere stopped by the studio to explain how they chose the songs, listen up:
When putting out an album like Join The Band and choosing music from the band’s history (as well as a few well placed covers) you have to take a look back at the roots of it all. Bill summed up their influences and how they helped shape the band’s sound. Listen up:
Jimmy Buffet executive produced the album and the guys say he was instrumental in getting this album off the ground. And when you are the executive producer, you get to sing a few songs on the album too. Time Loves A Hero is a classic Little Feat song that Jimmy got to sing and has a really interesting back story as Bill explains:
Here’s Time Loves A Hero from Join the Band:
Mike Gordon was yet another collaborator on the album doing a version of the classic This Land Is Your Land. Phish were big fans of Little Feat and once tried to meet up with the band. Dig this story from Bill:
Here’s This Land Is Your Land:
The album has guest stars like Dave Matthews, Bob Seger, Bela Fleck, Brooks & Dunn, Chris Robinson, former Little Feat band member Craig Fuller, Vince Gill, Inara George (Lowell’s daughter), Emmylou Harris, Sam Bush, and Sonny Landreth in addition to Mike Gordon and Jimmy Buffett. The guys are on tour right now doing just a few dates between now and November 10th. If you want to hear the whole Join The Band album with Bill & Paul taking you through every track, you might wanna check out AT&T blue room’s “BEST OF FEST” channel here this Saturday (10/25).
