Going For The Gold: The Cowsills

Of the fifteen singles the Cowsills released starting in 1966, two went gold. There are plenty of other bigger names who couldn’t do any better.
David Bowie, for example, who had only two gold records to his name, as well.
A family outfit of army brats who started performing in 1965, the Cowsills scored their first gold record a couple of years later, with their second single on MGM, “The Rain, the Park, and Other Things.”
A delectable slice of sixties sunshine pop, “The Rain” was released in September 1967, finding its place on the Top 40 in October and going gold by December, peaking at Number 2.
Gold record number 2 was also a Number 2 charting single, released a couple of years later in February 1969. “Hair,” from the musical of the same name, cracked the Top 40 shortly after it was released and spent 13 weeks on the chart. It was certified gold for a million sales within 30 days.
