The “godfather of the 1950′s folk revival movement” (History.com) and the primary influence on Bob Dylan (and, in turn, everyone else), Woody Guthrie passed away on this day in 1967.

He suffered from what is now diagnosed as Huntington’s chorea, which was treated in psychiatric facilities during the ’50′s and ’60′s. He died at the Creedmore Psychiatric Center in Queens at the age of 55.
