Top 10 Canadian Bands From The ’80′s, Eh?
King of the Canadian Headband (YouTube)
Good day, eh. As I mentioned yesterday when I tabbed April Wine‘s “I Like to Rock” as a Forgotten Favorite, I won my first “big time” radio job in the early ’80′s at a station in Syracuse, NY.
With 90 billion watts and a big lake to the north, we beamed across Canada for, like, 900 miles, so we played a lot of Canadian rock and roll bands. Here’s a hoserific list of the Top 10 Canadian Bands from the ’80′s that’ll likely irk pretty much everyone north of the border.
10. Rush – They could be Number 1 or Number 10. They’ll never be in the middle.
9. Saga – If Rush were Number 1, Saga would be Number 10 but we can’t manage all the algorithmic stuff involved with figuring it out.
8. Loverboy – Would rank higher if not for the leather pants and headbands, a bad decision even in ’82.
7. Aldo Nova – Loses points for working with Celine Dion. Also gains for points for working with Celine Dion.
6. Chilliwack – Sometimes it takes just one song.
5. Red Rider – See Chilliwack.
4. Max Webster – Worked with Geddy Lee on “Battle Scar,” so it’s kind of like ranking Rush at Number 4. Makes Black Sabbath sound like pussies.
3. April Wine – Because “Just Between You and Me” is one of the greatest sing-a-long hits of the ’80′s. Listen and prove me wrong.
2. Triumph – Because they’re really nice guys and “Magic Power” rocks.
1. Bob and Doug McKenzie – Because it’ll really piss off Rush fans. Then again, Geddy’s on this one, too, so it’s kind of like ranking Rush at Number 1, isn’t eh?
