On this day in 1854, old-school march guy John Philip Sousa was born in the place where marches never go out of style: Washington, D.C. He wrote all the big ones — “Stars & Stripes Forever,” “The Washington Post March” — and, we surmise, was the key inspiration for our Top 10 “Marching Songs” of All Time.
