Forgotten Favorites: ABC And “The Lexicon Of Love”
ABC - The Lexicon of Love (Mercury, 1982)
They were a mashup of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the best of the girl groups, Roxy Music and new Romantic London. And The Lexicon of Love was their defining moment.

ABC‘s The Lexicon of Love was in everybody’s Top 20 when it was released in 1982 and, since that time, has been listed as one of the best albums of the decade by a number of publications.
With good reason: Trevor Horn’s production is stellar, the songwriting — a flurry of dance, romance and immeasurably good string arrangements — is unequaled compared to others of its time and Martin Fry’s vocals are what Bryan Ferry would do if he were to unclench his arse.
Midway between “The Look of Love (Part One)” and the “The Look of Love (Part Four)” on side two, there’s “All of My Heart.” The former may be what everybody knows by the latter is the band at their best: grand and majestic, simple and romantic, brilliantly executed.
I gave you my heart, the story ends
No happy ever after, now were friends
Wish upon a star if that might help
The stars collide if you decide
