Going For The Gold: The Isley Brothers
Isley Brothers - That Lady (T-Neck, 1973)
Over the course of their 50-year career, the Isley Brothers have released the better part of 100 singles and have seen the R&B Top 10 nearly 30 times. How many of their singles have gone gold?

First on the roster of Isley Brothers million-sellers is “It’s Your Thing,” one of the band’s signature tunes. Even though the Isleys had been turning out records since 1957, “Lady” was the first to sell a million copies. It was also the first to reach the upper echelon of the pop chart, landing at #2 in April 1969.
The Isley machine kept chugging along — as it still does — turning out songs like “I Turned You On” (#23 pop, #6 R&B) and their cover of Stephen Stills‘ “Love the One You’re With” (#18 pop, #3 R&B).
The next single to go gold was 1973′s “That Lady,” their delicious bit of disco funk. It went to #6 on the pop chart, #2 on the R&B chart and certified gold in October ’73.
Another two years passed until “Fight The Power,” one of their two dozen plus R&B #1′s won them their third and final million seller award. Released in May, it went gold by September.
