Tucked amongst the Michael Jacksons and the Billy Joels on the list of gold and platinum sellers is the chameleon-like musician Joe Jackson, winner of two gold albums during his career.

Over the course of 30+ years and some 20 albums that span the stylistic arc from new wave to new classical, Joe Jackson has turned out two million-sellers.

His first gold record was his first album, his 1979 A&M set called Look Sharp! The first of four Top 20 albums for Jackson, Look Sharp! hit #20 in the US (and #40 in the UK) on the strength of his signature tune, “Is She Really Going Out With Him?” The album went gold just six months later.

Gold record number two for Jackson arrived four years later with his dynamic set, Night and Day. Propelled by two hit singles, the #6 “Steppin’ Out” and the #18 “Breaking Us in Two,” Night and Day has been the highest charting album for Jackson (at #4) and scored a gold record less than 6 months after its release.
