Each week, Billboard magazine’s “Bubbling Under” chart features singles that rank below its famous Hot 100 chart. Some of rock’s most noteworthy performers have appeared on this chart, and each weekend we spotlight one of them.
Although he had released a solo album in the late ’70s, Steve Winwood‘s solo career didn’t take off until 1981 with the release of Arc of a Diver. “While You See a Chance” was a top-10 hit and “Arc of a Diver” just missed the top 40.
One of the most popular tracks at album-rock radio stations, “Night Train,” was also released as a single. It barely made a dent, landing on the Bubbling Under chart for a couple of weeks and reaching #104. It’s a churnin’, burnin’ rock number that was edited and remixed for 45 play. The album version is below, because while 4:15 is good, 7:53 is better.
