One-Hit Wonders: Bob And Doug McKenzie’s “Take Off”
Bob And Doug McKenzie - "Take Off" (Mercury, 1982)
Eh, hosers! Not only were Bob and Doug McKenzie the The Best Canadian Band of the 80s, they were a One Hit Wonder. So, “Take Off,” eh?

Before they became the McKenzie Brothers, Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas were a pair of struggling comedians, Thomas writing scripts and working on SCTV and Moranis writing one-liners and doing radio shows.
When the “Bob and Doug” bits on SCTV took off, the pair decided to cut “Take Off.” With Moranis’ grade school pal Geddy Lee aboard, the record ended up in the Top 20 in the US, landing at #16 in March 1982.
It paved the way to a top-selling album (The Great White North), a one-off book and a movie (1983′s Strange Brew).
