Rock Flashback: Happy Birthdays With George Harrison

If he had lived, George Harrison would have celebrated his 69th birthday today. After the jump, find out how he celebrated it in years past.

On February 25, 1963, the day George turned 20, the Beatles had a day off while touring in support of singer Helen Shapiro.

On his birthday in 1964, birthday cards came to the home of George’s parents by the truckload. After a day spent recording tracks for A Hard Day’s Night, one of the Beatles’ accountants hosted a party for George that night, but when George found out that reporters had been invited, he angrily left.

In 1965, George spent his birthday in the Bahamas, where the band was shooting Help!

In 1966, George and his new wife Pattie returned to London from a Caribbean honeymoon on his birthday. They had gotten married in January.

On February 25, 1968, the Beatles were in India. George celebrated his birthday with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. George would stay in India for another two months, although his bandmates would leave much sooner.

One year later, George spent his birthday recording at Abbey Road, by himself, laying down the first takes of “Old Brown Shoe” and “Something,” among other songs.
